Monitoring and maintaining safety is an unavoidable challenge. Many chemicals used to maintain compliancy in swimming pools are classified as toxic. The swimming pool itself is potentially dangerous for humans. The responsibility for a safe environment rests on the owner(s) of the swimming pool. Having a qualified, careful, and certified pool operator is a large asset in your efforts of keeping residents, visitors, and family safe.
As a trained pool operator, we keep a careful eye on the safety equipment, emergency phone, pump, filtration system, heater, signage, and swimmer compliance to pool and state rules. Emphasis is also placed on the storage, handling, and usage of chemicals. Any concerns are immediately brought to your attention and a monthly safety report is prepared.
We are also conscientious about our own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). We comply with all safety regulations provided by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and the Department of Transportation (DOT). We also keep in step with the safety standards provided by the World Health Organizatio (WHO), The Chlorine Institute, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Clean water not only helps in compliance with the state requirement of having the main drain visible, it also makes swimming more enjoyable. Besides removing the debri inside the pool through a regular routine of vacuuming and brushing, we also keep the pool deck clean to reduce debri entering the pool from swimmers and wind.
The cleanliness of the pump room is important as well. A tidy and organized pump room helps comply with the regulations from Occupational Safety and Health Administration, local fire departments, and the safety standards from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Interesting Fact: Here in the United States, there are several public regulatory agencies at the federal level that provide rules for swimming pool operations and equipment. This is in addition to the state and local regulations from the Oregon Health Authority and your county or city Fire Department. Wading through all the regulations in this industry is not a summer treat for pool owners, and that is another valuable reason to have a knowledgeable and certified pool operator at your disposal.
While we are not legal counsel, we are very knowledgeable on the regulations for pool operations and make a good member to your team!
